Summer is here in most parts of the country! The weather is getting warmer and warmer, and children are excited because the school year has come to an end. But, as a parent, are you ready? I know you won’t forget to stock up on sunscreen, but you might also want to plan some special activities that will entertain and keep your child’s brain active during the summer months.  This is a perfect time to pursue those enriching experiences that children never forget.

Last year, I provided you with some great Boredom Busters. This year I wanted to hear from you! I asked our fans on Facebook to submit their creative ideas they have found worked for them.  I am pleased to be able to share these parent-proven suggestions with you.

  • Family vacations are quite popular. Some popular destinations include camping areas, homes of relatives near and far, the beach, and the aquarium or zoo!
  • Time at the swimming pool is another favorite.  Just don’t forget the sunscreen and PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices).
  • A great and inexpensive idea is to set-up your own mini-water park in the yard. Simply fill up a kiddy pool and turn on a sprinkler.  This is guaranteed fun for the whole family.
  • One dad has a standing Sunday date at the pool with his child. In the summer, having a routine or schedule to follow can lead to an easier transition when school starts.
  • A lot of parents opt for a sequence of swim lessons, tae kwon do, karate, art, and other lessons that fill summer weeks for their children.
  • A great idea is to gather a group of families with children the same age and rotate weeks of organizing a fun play date.
  • Learning how to ride a bike sounds like a great task for a child to master this summer. It’s easy to get them started on training wheels and wean them off s-l-o-w-l-y! Don’t forget the helmet!
